As we are all very keen mountain bikers at Chamonix Lodge Hostel, we have to include mountain biking as one of the summer attractions for you to get involved with when you come to Chamonix. So here is it, number seven out of our top ten summer activities…
The Chamonix valley offers a whole host of mountain biking options with mixed trails for cross country and freeriding available together with more downhill orientated dedicated trails in Les Houches and Balme. In addition there are approximately 20 marked trails that pass through the villages of Servoz, Chamonix and Vallorcine offering spectacular panoramas of the stunning mountains in the valley – that is if you want to take a more gentle approach to cycling in the valley.
When the lift system is open in the valley from mid summer, you can more easily access the downhill trails on offer – the lifts in La Flégère, Vallorcine and Les Houches are all mountain bike friendly and will enable you to access vertical descents of between 500m and 1,500m.
Please note that a large proportion of the trails are mixed usage and priority should always be given to pedestrians. In the peak weeks of the summer, some of the trails are no longer permitted for mountain biking.
There really is just too much information for us to cover on all the options in the valley so please check out the following guides for more comprehensive information – summary mountain bike guide and comprehensive mountain bike guide. These guides will answer all your questions on accessing the riding in the Chamonix valley and contain highly detailed maps of all the trails. Further information is also available in the tourist office in the centre of town.
Don’t forget if you are staying with us at Chamonix Lodge Hostel then we offer secure bike storage and plenty of outside space for you to work on your bikes after a hard day on the trails.
