Are you coming to visit us at Chamonix Lodge this summer? If you haven’t decided yet, we are going to be giving you our top ten reasons why you should visit Chamonix and some of the best summer attractions the Alps have to offer. We’re going to do a count down over the next week or so – be sure to check back regularly to find our recommendations and help us to help you make the right holiday decision for the summer ahead!

Chamonix is a flamboyant town, a cultural melting pot for all those who love the mountains and the great outdoors. It’s no wonder the British, Scandinavians, Americans, Australians and many other nationalities besides the French flock to our town. There are almost too many sports to participate in but as a taster Chamonix has world-class mountaineering, climbing, hiking and trail running on offer, as well as more than enough gravity orientated mountain biking to keep you amused for many weeks, why wouldn’t you visit?

And if you prefer a more serene approach to your summer holiday, then you can still take in the amazing mountain views without too much effort at all, thanks to the Montenvers train you can visit the Mer de Glace (and ice caves), France’s biggest Glacier, or take a trip up the Aiguille de Midi cable car and visit the highest mountain station in Europe at 3,842 metres above sea level. The views you will experience are totally out of this world.

Chamonix town itself offers a very relaxed approach to shopping, dining and socialising, with plenty of street life in the summer time with al fresco dining provided at most cafes and restaurants. Many of the best mountain sports clothing brands have flagship stores in Chamonix, which compliment all of the independent retailers in the centre of town.

Sporting events you say? There are almost too many to mention, but some of the highlights of this summer for the ultra athletes amongst you have to be the Mont Blanc Marathon in June (with all its accompanying events from the vertical kilometre to the 80km ultra marathon) and the Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc running festival in August which will see runners compete in distances up to 161km.

So that is your taster of what we are going to be recommending over the forthcoming days. Please be sure to check back to discover what Chamonix has to offer this summer. And don’t forget we offer some of the best hostel style accommodation at Chamonix Lodge.
